Subject: Clarification on the Practice of Reciting Surah Al-Fath After Dhuhr PrayerAssalam-o-Alaikum,I have come across a claim online that states: "Whoever recites Surah Al-Fath (Surah No. 48) immediately after the Dhuhr prayer will be granted the opportunity to perform Hajj before his death." I would like to request clarification on this matter.Could you please advise:Whether there is any authentic evidence from the Qur'an or Sahih hadith collections supporting this claim?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
To the best of our knowledge, there is no authentic evidence in the Sunnah that reciting Surah (chapter) Al-Fath after the Dhuhr prayer leads to being granted the opportunity to perform Hajj. Moreover, it is well known that it is not permissible to claim a specific virtue for a particular Surah without evidence from the Shariah.
Whoever claims such a virtue without a clear textual basis is speaking without knowledge. Likewise, it is not permissible to designate a specific Surah for recitation at a particular time while believing in the special merit of that timing unless this is established by Shariah. Whoever does so has fallen into Bid‘ah (innovation in religion).
Indeed, Allah is to be worshiped only through what He has legislated and not through what people invent.
The Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said: “Whoever introduces something into this matter of ours (i.e., Islam) that is not from it, it will be rejected.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
In a similar version narrated by Muslim: “Whoever does an action that is not in accordance with this matter of ours, it will be rejected.”
Imam An-Nawawi said: “This Hadith is a fundamental principle of Islam and one of the Prophet’s concise, comprehensive sayings. It clearly indicates that all innovations and invented matters (in religion) are to be rejected… This Hadith deserves to be memorized and used frequently in refuting impermissible matters, and it should be widely cited as evidence.”
Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in Fath al-Bari: “This Hadith is considered one of the fundamental and basic principles of Islam. Its meaning is: Whoever introduces into the religion something for which there is no reference in any of the basic teachings of Islam, it is to be disregarded.”
Allah knows best.
